Yesterday was the 17th of Tammuz according to the Jewish calendar. This day has great significance. It is known as the day when Moses broke the two tablets of stone that had the Ten Commandments written by the Finger of God. When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, he saw that the people had made a golden calf, worshipped it, and in anger he smashed the tablets.
A few weeks ago a Ten Commandments monument, which had just been erected outside the capital grounds of Arkansas, was smashed by a man named Michael T. Reed II, who drove his 2016 Dodge Dart into the 6,000-pound granite slab at about 4:47 in the morning. He broke all ten commandments at once!
We are no different then this man. The Bible says, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God,” cf. Romans 3:23. Jesus the Son of God perfectly obeyed and fulfilled all of the commandments and all of the righteous requirements of God’s Law and suffered death in our stead by shedding His blood on a cross. Though we are guilty, God the Father declares innocent and righteous all who place their trust and confidence in the Person and Work of His Son Jesus the Messiah.
