The work You gave Me to do

John 17:4, “I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do.”

The night before Jesus died, He was able to say, “I accomplished the work which You have given Me to do, Father.”  Dying on the cross at the age of 33, He said, “It is finished”.  What is truly amazing is that He prayed, saying, “I glorified You…having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do.”   It was more than obeying a command from His Father.  For Jesus, it was a delight to do what He considered a privilege and a gift.

We exist to glorify God!  We most glorify God when we accomplish the work He has given us to do.  Ephesians 2:8-10, “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them”.
